Bishop Monkton Methodist Church: Climb Every Mountain

On the 7th of February we were staying in a little village called Bishop Monkton.  Located about 30minutes from York, it was such a beautiful little village.  It was time for church and after extensive online research (mainly because it was almost impossible to find) we found the details of the local Methodist Church to attend.

Mountain Top Experiences

Based on readings from Luke 9:28-43 and Exodus 34:29-35

Peter made a few mistakes being whilst he was on the mountain.  He tried to lock Jesus away in a building, he was more focussed on the building than just being on the mountain and he was focussed on doing things/action than just on worship.

Travelling through the UK and in particular Scotland has made me think a lot about this.  With all the mountains around there is so much to see, we just need to stop and look.  If I am too focussed on ‘doing’ stuff then I miss the opportunity to see some of the most beautifully stunning and breathtaking views.  I blind myself to what is truly going on around me and focus on things that, in the end, don’t really matter at all.

It is in these moments that we can truly feel and experience God’s presence.  But all of this is well and good but you have to be there first.  By this I mean that to be able to have the mountain top experience, you actually have to climb the mountain.  I can’t stand in the valley or in the plains and expect to have mountain top views.  To climb the mountain, I need to know what I am doing.  I need training, equipment and support.  this follows into the next post I will put up which was the next service we attended…

Stay Tuned….

More to Come…
