On Wednesday we went to the Hershey’s Chocolate World in Pennsylvania and we did the make your own chocolate bar. There were three steps we had to complete:
- First we had to choose a base chocolate, the candy inside and design a wrapper
- We had to watch our chocolate go through the making process
- We got our chocolate from the desk at the end
I decided to have a milk chocolate base and it had a flat rectangle and I chose to have chocolate chips and butterscotch chips inside and sprinkles on top.
Once we had chosen the base and candy we watched it be selected and filled with our candy and then it was coated in warm milk chocolate then the chocolate coating was flattened and the sprinkles were put on top. Next it went to the cooling chamber to set the chocolate. Because it takes around 10 minuets to cool, we designed our rapper while we waited.
Once the chocolate bar was cooled, we watched it go through the boxing stage. Then it was put in a tin by the people at the end desk and our rapper, which was a piece of cardboard with our design printed on it, was put on the tin. The tin was put in a bag and then we were allowed to leave.
I had a wonderful day and I’ve already had some of my chocolate bar and it tastes really nice.

That sounds like a cool thing to do. I wish they did something like that at the Haighs chocolate factory here in Adelaide!
So did you also buy lots of other chocolate from there or did you manage to resist??!!
Whenever we do the Haighs tour we come out loaded with chocolate!
I remember the smell being so sickly – not quite as bad as the m&m shop in las vegas! but close!
